Many pet owners worry for their pets while on holiday. Obviously, you can't take your fish tank with you on holiday, but if you have a dog or a cat, you may be able to bring them too if you find a pet friendly hotel.

  1. A pet friendly hotel is a hotel that allows tourists to have small animals in their rooms. Some of these establishments do not charge extra for pets, but most of them do charge a small fee. Others will require a deposit that will be refunded if the pet does not cause damage to the room.
  2. Some hotels only accept dogs. Cats or other animals are not allowed into the rooms. It would be a good idea to call the hotel and ask which animals are accepted and which aren't.
  3. Don't take your dog on holiday if it is not trained enough. Even pet friendly hotels will expel dogs that bark too often and disturb other tourists.
  4. Many hotels have a number of limited rooms for pet owners. Make sure they have an available 'pet room' when booking.
  5. Check your pet's weight, as some hotels have a weight limit.
  6. Check out web directories that offer pet friendly hotels data bases. It's more convenient than calling each hotel to ask for pet rooms.
  7. Traveling can prove stressful and sometimes dangerous for your pet. Remember to pack a simple first aid kit, with bandages and antiseptics.
  8. During the holiday, your pet's collar should include an extra tag with information on where you are staying. It will allow you to be contacted locally in case your pet gets lost
